I have been off the radar as far as this blog goes for a while… Quite a while, really. I offer an apology to you, my poor neglected blog, and to anyone who may have had an interest in the past in what I have to write.

Once again I have an excuse (this is a recurring theme really), this time I am running a marathon.

Big deal! I hear you say, everyone runs marathons or ultras these days.

True, perhaps, but that doesn’t make it any easier. At least that is what I have come to expect. It is just under one week until I experience the full exhaustion, thrill, exhilaration and pain of starting to run and not stopping until I’ve done 42.195km. Perhaps even harder for me, given that I am a slow runner and expect to be on the course over five hours.

The event is the Melbourne Marathon Festival, the date Sunday the 13th of October. I have been working towards this goal for the past few months and it is a big one for me – it has taken a lot of time and even more energy. In the wake of this my blog, ANZ 23 Mobile Things etc have fallen by the wayside, hopefully to be picked up again when the dust has settled and my limbs have returned to working order!

I do have an ulterior motive for blogging about my marathon efforts now, and that is that I am marking the occasion by raising money for a charity I feel strongly about – Animals Australia. From my fundraising page here are some reasons I made this choice:

For the dogs who live their whole lives in filthy cages churning out puppies for people to love, yet receiving no love themselves. For the factory farmed animals who suffer so that we might have cheap meat, eggs and milk. For the even more unfortunate animals shipped around the world in appalling conditions only to be slaughtered even more appallingly. These animals need your help.

Maybe some of you might support Animals Australia already, perhaps you are concerned about how the way we live affects animals – if so I would be extremely grateful for your support in my fundraising efforts. Or perhaps you just think – yeah, 42.195km, that’s not a bad effort, perhaps I could chip in a couple of dollars for someone who’s prepared to give it a go – either way, a worthy charity will benefit from your donation and I will benefit during those hard kilometers from knowing I have your support.

Wish me luck, I’ll do my best to return stronger than ever from this!
